Cllr. Kevin Mitchell

kevinmitchellKevin was born, raised and educated in Exeter and has lived here for the majority of his life. He attended Surrey University between 1996-99 to complete his nurse training and also has a BSC (Hons) from Plymouth University in Health Studies.

Kevin is 46 and was first elected to the City Council for St James Ward in 2003, he was re-elected in 2007 and 2011 but lost his seat by 35 on the last day of the Coalition government in 2015. Kevin however was re-elected for the new Duryard and St James City Council ward in May of 2016 and was re-elected in May 2018 with an increased majority.

Kevin is the Progressive Group Co-Leader on Exeter City Council.

Kevin’s political positions have included being the Chair of the Community Scrutiny Committee, Vice Chair of Community Scrutiny Committee, Chair of the Planning Member Working Group. Kevin was also Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure between 2008-2010, when the Lib Dems ran Exeter City Council. He has also been Deputy Lord Mayor for Exeter on two occasions.

Kevin passionately believes in community politics and is active in ensuring residents, residents groups and the Exeter St James Forum have their voices heard. Kevin also believes in a balanced community and was instrumental in working with residents to create the Exeter St James Neighbourhood Plan.

Outside of politics Kevin is a Clinical Nurse Specialist caring for patients with Skin cancer and Sarcoma. He enjoys gardening, watching films, watching football, is a keen speedway fan and a Harry Potter fan too.
